Warning, newbie question! This will be my first time to attend and am not sure how it works. I could stay with family in the area but is it better (more fun) to stay at the Hotel? Do many people not leave the general area of the event?
One simple answer. YES , you should stay at the hotel. Alot happens all night long.
Dont let him fool ya. We just sit around our cars in the evening talking BS til it gets late...like 8pm. Then its time to turn in so we can be fresh for the next days events. You wont miss much by staying with family.

I have done both, and can say, if I can swing the cost this year I will stay at the Marriott again. The proximity to a shower and air conditioned room, and a bed for the afternoon nap is really nice. The ability to drink while socializing in the lot is nice as well.

Being able to just walk to your room for an afternoon nap is great cause you may be up till the sun comes up or if no nap is needed you can always crawl to your room about 2-3AM. Some people just sleep in the elevators.
Def advantage to stay in the hotel...its nice to stumble to the elevator...stumble off and use the wall to make it to your room. LOL! Oh and afternoon naps FTW!
Always better to stay at the event hotel for all the reasons stated above. I have even heard that the baclonies of some of the rooms can double as open air urinals...
LOL OK, ok, I think I want to stay at the hotel. I'll just come in a day early and visit the relatives. Then the party is on!
